L'Audemars Piguet Royal Oak è stato disegnato da Gérald Genta e presentato nel 1972. È considerato il primo orologio sportivo di lusso ed è il modello più noto della manifattura, fondata nel 1875 nella Vallée de Joux e con sede a Le Brassus. Un Royal Oak con calendario perpetuo seguì nel 1984 e una versione scheletrata nel 1986. I video comprendono una campagna con Serena Williams, intitolata No One Shapes Time Alone, e la presentazione del RD#5 Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-thin Selfwinding Tourbillon Chronograph. Cutting-edge Craftsmanship. Released in 2022, Calibre 2972 combines a selfwinding mechanism with a flying tourbillon. The beauty and finesse of the mechanism are revealed by removing as much as material from the mainplate and bridges as possible to let light pass through, without impairing its functions.
